There's a whole bunch of mom/pop motels in the area. Pomona isn't the best at night but i've never had a problem.

Motel 6 Los Angeles - Pomona
2470 South Garey Avenue, Pomona, CA 91766
Phone: (909) 591-1871

This is across the street from California’s best burgers (veggie as well):
IN & OUT.

And it is near a HUGE shopping complex the CHINO HILLS PLAZA
14500 Pipeline Ave, Chino, CA 91710 Phone: 909-606-0049

It ain’t Beverly Hills but it is safer than Hollywood and it is at Straight Edge prices (c-h-e-a-p).

Also there are a TON of public free skateparks: 909 skateparks near here.

My advice is just renting a car and stay away from Pomona, that place sucks

Is Pamona that sketchy? I'm flying into LAX and then finding a way to Pamona if there's public transit or renting a car. Is it better to stay in LA and commute to Pamona for the shows and back. Seems like a lot of work.
It would make more sense to stay in Pamona then go back to LA to drop off the car and catch the flight back.

No, Pomona isn't sketchy.

There's not much to do/see compared to other cities within a 30 mile radius.

You'll have no issues if you stay there.

like others have said, pomona isnt great but it does have an element of roughness adn after about 11 pm, the whole town shuts down. every town in the area has its good parts and bad parts.... chino, chino hills, glendora, la verne, san dimas, clarement. all are good options as well.

malte... traffic can suck coming from hb. plan a little extra time. if you get to pomona a little early, there are some good eats close by.

I think there's a sketchy part of Pomona, but I'm not sure where it is. A long time ago, the LA Times had a map of the "24 deadliest zip codes in LA County," and every zip code was in South Central LA and Compton and a few in East LA, and then one zip code all by itself out in Pomona. That was a long time ago though.

that's 60 minutes with no traffic I'm guessing I'd say give yourself 90 minutes just to be safe as southern California traffic blows.

there are definitely a bunch of cholo gangs in pomona. just go outside of the downtown area, which is the only decent looking area in that city. one time i got lost finding the glass house and pretty close by there is a neighborhood next to a train track. defintely shitsville right over there. but like people said, there asre bads parts in every parts of L.A. i would say in general pomona is defnitely a place most people would not want to live in if they had a choice in the matter.
